The Maile School is offering a new and exciting program for kids & teens on Improvisation.

Did you know Improv is the art of composing, uttering, executing or arranging anything without previous preparation, in the moment. Learning Improv and Improvisational games can be a very useful tool in your acting, auditioning, and public speaking or as a means of overcoming shyness.

This special program is taught by The Maile School’s own Jim Braswell, who studied at the Sak Comedy Lab with and under Whose Line’s Wayne Brady. Jim’s 20+ years in the Entertainment Industry includes being a member of the Disney Comedy Troupe; Streetmosphere/Citizen of Hollywood and as an Audience Warm Up for various Disney Attractions and television shows taped at Disney.

This program is creative, interactive and hands on and will cover the basics of improv, adding improv to improve your auditions, learn comedy, timing, working with partners and building self-confidence. All students will create an improv skit and perform in a live showcase in front of an audience. We will also invite a guest agent in to watch the show.

The start dates is next Saturday, March 11th from 4 pm to 6 p m.

Meet Image Instructor & Professional hair designer

JAMIE WATTLES

Professional Hair Designer Jamie Wattles has been with Catwalk Hair Design for 7 years. She studied Cosmetology at Woody’s Hairstyling School in Orlando. Since graduating in 2010 she has mastered a wide variety of hair techniques including, dimensional hair coloring, different color techniques, hair cutting, keratin treatments, and waxing. Jamie believes in continual education and strives to stay at the forefront of her field with her knowledge of new products and services available in order to provide excellent service to her clientele. Jamie is exceptional at listening to her clients and providing them creative ideas when creating a new look.

Jamie teaches the hair care design class at The Maile School in the Image and Confidence Development program. She educates teen girls on how to keep their hair healthy and gives them a better understanding of product knowledge. She also styles the models hair for fashions shows, events and photo shoots. Jamie has a true passion for doing hair.

1 Day Hands on Workshop

The Maile School is offering a 1 day hands on workshop in the areas of on camera cold reads, commercials, etiquette, table settings, everyday manners, 2 part commercials and public speaking taught by Debby Tapia.

Debby has been with The Maile School for over 25 years and has been an instrumental part of the school’s success. She is a certified Etiquette Consultant trained at the American School of Protocol in Atlanta, Georgia.

Debby teaches in many our kid and teen programs helping students break into the industry and build self esteem as well as in the adult Professional Modeling program.

If you are new to the industry or already a working actor this an informative workshop will help.

The next available workshop is Monday, January 16th from 10am to 1pm. Please note this day is a school / student holiday.

The workshop is hands on and all students perform on camera as well as perform in front of a live audience at the end. We invite all parents in the last 30 minutes for a review, watch the video and to see all the students perform live.

All skill levels are welcome for ages 7 to 16 years and the entire workshop focuses on building self esteem.

The Maile Image, Modeling and Acting School has been working with students and training talent since 1982. We have produced many successful graduates such as Mandy Moore from the NBC hit show This is us, Jack Griffo from Nickelodeons The Thundermans as Max Thunderman, Norm Lewis from Broadway as Phantom in Phantom of the Opera and Stefanie Scott formally Lexi Reed on Disney’s ANT FARM, and Michael Campion as Jackson on Netflix Fuller House.

Meet Instructor Tracy Frenkel

The Maile School is happy to feature acting instructor Tracy Frenkel.

Tracy grew up in Chicago and at the early age he was entertaining customers at various local restaurants as a close up table magician. He did this until he was sixteen when his family moved to Florida.

While attending high school he was involved in theater and performed in a variety of musical comedies and dinner shows. He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville majoring in theater. After a year there he relocated to Orlando and attended UCF. Tracy graduated with a theater degree and a minor in radio and television communications.

He also performed as a stand up comic then moving on to productions. Tracy relocated to Chicago after receiving a scholarship from The Second City. His film role was as a dockworker in Above the Law (1988) with Steven Segal and Pam Grier. His first speaking role in a film was as a hitman, Briggio, in David Mamet‘s film, Things Change (1988), featuring Don Ameche and Joe Mantegna. In between films in Chicago he coached and performed with several improvisational groups.

Back to Florida he landed a recurring role on the popular Nickelodeon sitcom Welcome Freshmen (1991) that ran for three seasons. He played both the male and female roles of Coach Roche and Rochelle. He booked many commercials as well as industrials. In addition he had a recurring role as a pizza parlor owner on Noah Knows Best (2000). His other resumes credits include Unsolved Mysteries, From the Earth To the Moon (1998), Safe Harbor (1999), and Keenan & Kel(1996).

Tracy has been an adult acting and improv instructor at The Maile School for many years and continues to stay busy not only as an actor but a producer, casting director and of course he is a SAG/AFTRA member.

Tracy is offering a 1 day hands on intensive workshop for adults on Saturday, December 3^rd. This is a perfect workshop to stay current with your skills and add to your resume for continued training.

Man Down Justin Smith

Man Down Justin Smith

Former Maile School acting instructor and professional modeling and acting grad Justin Smith is an actor, known for his role on ABC’s hit soap General Hospital as Holt and the feature film Man Down as Stanton. Man Down will premier in theaters December 2nd.

Maile School’s President Debbie Wisner says, “Justin was great to have here on our staff. First as a student then as an instructor. He gave a lot to all the students and he just had that ‘it’ factor. We all knew it was a matter of time.”

Man Down takes place in post-apocalyptic North America, former U.S. Marine Gabriel Drummer (Shia LaBeouf), searches desperately for the whereabouts of his son, Jonathan, and wife, Natalie (Kate Mara), accompanied by his best friend (Jai Courtney) and a survivor (Clifton Collins, Jr.). Justin landed a lead role the film Silent Fall (2007) where he traveled all the way to Cape Town, South Africa where he spent four months filming throughout Cape Town, and also gained some much appreciated life experience. After returning from South Africa, Justin found himself in New York where he was cast in his first major television role on the CBS soap opera, As The World Turns. This led to other roles on television such as Army Wives (2007), Burn Notice (2007) and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries (2009). He also landed film work in A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) starring Bruce Willis, and the comedy Walk of Shame (2014). Justin was also a host and a popular face on the syndicated morning news and entertainment show The Daily Buzz.

Shellita is a SAG stunt actress and has doubled for some of Hollywood’s leading ladies in films such as Why did I Get Married Two, Medea’s Big Happy Family, and TV shows for Single Ladies, The Middle, and The Young and the Restless. Her commercial credits include Publix, SeaWorld, Lunchables, & Derek Jeter Ford Edge to name a few. Shellita earned her BA Degree in Communications from UCF.
