STAR TALENT: NORM LEWIS on VH1’s Daytime Divas

Maile School’s very talented acting graduate Norm Lewis, who acted on ABC’s “Scandal,” has a new TV acting gig.

Norm landed the role of William on VH1’s new show called Daytime Divas. His character William is a very handsome doorman who may hold one of the leading ladies’ darkest secrets.

Daytime Divas is a gossip-driven, feud of real and imagined daytime talk shows mix in this scripted series, that stars Vanessa Williams whom Norm is dating on the show, Tichina Arnold, Chloe Bridges, Camille Guaty, and Fiona Gubelmann as the hosts of the show titled “The Lunch Hour.” It’s a long-running, popular talk show for women, filled with conversations about life, love, and politics and, yes gossip, but off-camera, it’s a hot mess.

Norm was born and raised in Eatonville and graduated from Edgewater High School as well as The Maile Acting School. He was nominated for Broadway’s Tony Award in 2012 for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. He was cast as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, becoming the first African-American to play the role on Broadway.

His other industry credits include All My Children, Sex and the City 2, Gotham, Blue Bloods, and ABC’s hit show Scandal playing Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) fiancé Senator Edison Davis.

Be sure to look and watch for Norm to see what he is up to on VH1’s Daytime Divas on Monday nights at 10pm.

Congratulations to acting graduate Norm Lewis for becoming Broadway’s first black phantom.

“Phantom of the Opera” is the longest running show in Broadway history. Thirteen men have played the role of Phantom on Broadway, but the one making headlines is Norm Lewis.
He was featured as ABC’s Person of the Week. In an interview with ABC Norm said, “I’m just so excited to be a part of this history. People have a certain vision of a particular character and, a lot of times, we as minorities don’t fit that particular vision. And now, I think that people are a little more open to that.”
The legendary creator of the show, Andrew Lloyd Webber (pictured left with Norm), said the Broadway world is becoming more colorblind.
“Phantom of the Opera” featuring Norm Lewis begins on Monday, May 12, at the Majestic Theater.
Norm is known for his role of Sen. Edison Davis on ABC’s hit show Scandal.
