         STAR TALENT: NADIA TOMLINSON

nadia-maile-school-disneyMaile School kids acting grad Nadia Tomlinson is 5 years old. She is in Kindergarten and enjoys playing soccer, futsal, tumbling, painting and dancing. She won the under 5/6 MVP trophy for futsal this past winter season.  Most recently, she participated in the Little Miss Avalon Park Pageant and won the tiny division.

Nadia is a beautiful girl and very new to the acting and modeling industry but while attending her program at The Maile School she booked her very first job. It was a principal role for the Disney Firsts campaign called Kindermoon. She also booked and shot with Orlando’s Playground Magazine for their May / June issue.

Miss Jennifer one of her acting instructors here at The Maile School says, “After working with Nadia a few weeks she became animated and would light up on camera. I am so proud of Nadia on her Disney job and can’t wait to see what else she books.”Nadia-The-Maile-School

Nadia’s mom Jeane says, “The Maile School has been an invaluable resource for our daughter!    Meet Maile School instructor Lance Smith

Lance-maile-schoolMaile School’s acting instructor Lance Smith is most widely known as the “Voice of CMT.” A Nashville native, Lance spent nearly a decade hosting a variety of programs for Country Music Television such as Can You Duet, CMT’s Most Wanted Live and CMT specials but is always recognized for CMT’s Top 20 Countdown.  Lance also interviewed many of today’s biggest stars.

During his time on the MTV Network he also foun d himself acting on the big screen in comedies like Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector and Delta Farce. Continuing his television hosting career, Lance hosted on the Weather Channel’s Weathering Disaster and anchoring the morning infotainment show The Daily Buzz. Lance is currently the voice of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans during football season.

He is also the author of the children’s book titled The Old Man and the Cat. We keep a copy in our lobby here at The Maile School so be sure to read it.

Lance is now hosting his Advanced Intensive Acting program here at The Maile School. This is our popular advanced program and the next one is beginning Wednesday, March 29th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm (1 day a week for 8 weeks).  Students really enjoy this program and we often have students take it again.

Maile’s acting and advanced acting graduate Hunter Montgomery has taken it twice and has just enrolled again for the third time. Hunter says, “Lance is an excellent teacher who really cares about his students. He is able to get you too truly expand your abilities as an actor. The class has really given me more confidence and has improved my acting abilities greatly.”

STAR TALENT: Warren Hersch

Dr. Hersch graduated from the University of Florida where he attained his B.S. degree and his Dental degree (D.M.D.). He served in the United States Navy Reserve Dental Corps for 4 years of active duty in Washington D.C., Okinawa, Japan, and Orlando. Warren earned an honorary life membership to the United States Navy Band and a Navy Unit Commendation Medal. He has been in private practice since 1985 and enjoys implant restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Hersch stays active professionally and is very involved with community events and organizations. He has been attending continuous educational courses to provide his patients with the latest dental technology. Warren has been a member of the West Hernando and Port Orange South Daytona Rotary Clubs (where he served as President), Hernando Health Advisory Board, West Hernando Chamber of Commerce and Pasco Hernando Community College Dental Hygiene Advisory Board Chairman to name a few. He has served as President of the West Pasco Dental Association and he earned Diplomat and Mastership Awards in implant dentistry. Dr. Hersch is a member of “Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americans”, received “Service Above Self” and Merit Awards from the Rotary Club.

Some of Warren’s industry credits include “Dr. G Medical Examiner,” and “Skeleton Stories” on the Discovery Health Channel, a documentary on Eileen Wuornos (as an interrogation officer), commercials including, 3M, J.J. Wentworth, Embry Riddle University, Disney World, Universal Studios, Veterans Administration, Osteo Bi-Flex, Shands Hospital, Accenture (with Tiger Woods), Bridgestone (with Fred Couples), Royal Bank of Canada Heritage Golf Tournament (with Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk) Lakeland Auto Mall, Florida Realtor Magazine and Larson Boats, and many others.

DSC_002221Warren is a graduate of The Maile School’s Advanced Acting Intensive program with acting instructor Lance Smith and Casting Director’s John Peros Audition workshop. Warren says, “I enjoyed the Maile School’s program very much and learned a lot to help improve my acting skills.

He wrote and proposed a medical talk show for WCEU (WDSC) TV, Channel 15, Daytona Beach, Florida, and was the host of this very successful show called, “Medical Matters Hotline”.

SKIN DEEP the Series is a dramatic web series where 7 characters’ lives quickly become intertwined when a highly publicized brutal attack is perceived as a calculated, racially motivated gay bashing, deeply dividing the city with explosive consequences.

SKIN DEEP The Series parallels some of the social challenges we currently face as a nation. Issues such as race, culture, gender identity, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, police brutality, Islamophobia and much more. The cast consists of a diverse group of professional actors including gay, straight, transgender, Muslim, Asian, Latino, Black, and White actors.

Ben is born and raised in Florida and throughout high school he excelled in sports receiving MVP awards in football, wrestling, weightlifting, and track. Upon graduation he was offered a football scholarship to Charleston Southern University. While in the midst of playing sports and training, Ben discovered he had a passion for acting. Ben attended the adult on camera acting program here at The Maile School and after completing the program he went full force into the industry. His impressive resume credits include BET’s Being Mary Jane, House of Cards, Baby Driver,  Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Fantastic Four, Finding Carter, I’m Not Ashamed, and Troy to name a few. He now lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

mandy-moore-maile-schoolDid you know Mandy Moore took acting classes at The Maile Acting School? That’s right everybody starts somewhere.

Amanda Leigh Moore AKA Mandy Moore grew up in Seminole County and attended Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, from 1998-2002.

Mandy gained fame with her 1999 debut single titled “Candy.”  After signing with Epic Records, she released her first album, So Real that received Platinum certification. In 2000 Mandy’s single, “I Wanna Be with You“, became her first Top 30 song in the US, peaking at number 24 on the Hot 100 chart.

As of 2009, Moore has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, according to Billboard. In 2012, Moore was ranked #96 on VH1‘s list of “100 Greatest Women in Music” (as well as #63 on their Sexiest Artists of All Time List.)

Mandy made her film debut in the 2001 comedy film Dr. Dolittle 2, although it was only a small voice role. Later that same year, she appeared as Lana Thomas in the comedy film The Princess Diaries starring Oscar winner Anne Hathaway. She had her first starring role as Jamie Sullivan in the 2002 romantic drama film A Walk to Remember, which was based on Nicholas Sparks‘ novel.  As well as other roles such as Chasing Liberty, Grey’s Anatomy, Because I Said So, License to Wed and Hotel Noir to name a few.

In 2016, she began starring as Rebecca Pearson in the NBC popular family comedy-drama series titled This Is Us for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination.

This is Us follows a unique ensemble, as their paths cross and their life stories intertwine, from sharing the same birthday, to so much more than anyone would expect.

The Maile School is offering a new and exciting program for kids & teens on Improvisation.

Did you know Improv is the art of composing, uttering, executing or arranging anything without previous preparation, in the moment. Learning Improv and Improvisational games can be a very useful tool in your acting, auditioning, and public speaking or as a means of overcoming shyness.

This special program is taught by The Maile School’s own Jim Braswell, who studied at the Sak Comedy Lab with and under Whose Line’s Wayne Brady.  Jim’s 20+ years in the Entertainment Industry includes being a member of the Disney Comedy Troupe; Streetmosphere/Citizen of Hollywood and as an Audience Warm Up for various Disney Attractions and television shows taped at Disney.

This program is creative, interactive and hands on and will cover the basics of improv, adding improv to improve your auditions, learn comedy, timing, working with partners and building self-confidence. All students will create an improv skit and perform in a live showcase in front of an audience. We will also invite a guest agent in to watch the show.

The start dates is next Saturday, March 11th from 4 pm to 6 p m.

    Its Spring Break time at The Maile School.

Looking for a fun activity? The Maile School is offering a 1 day fun, active & creative workshop for kids & teens.

This hands on workshop will focus on cold reads, commercials, etiquette, table settings, everyday manners, 2 part commercials and public speaking taught by Debby Tapia.

Debby has been with The Maile School for over 25 years and has been an instrumental part of the school’s success.  She is a certified Etiquette Consultant trained at the American School of Protocol in Atlanta, Georgia.

If you are new to the industry or already a working actor this informative workshop will help. If you are looking to try something new and build confidence come and check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Our Spring Break 1 day workshop is on Wednesday, March 22nd from 10am to 1pm and held here at The Maile School.

All students perform and train on camera as well as perform in front of a live audience at the end. We invite all parents in the last 30 minutes for a review, watch the video and to see all the students perform live.

All skill levels are welcome for ages 7 to 16 years and the entire workshop focuses on acting and building self-esteem.

The Maile Image, Modeling and Acting School has been working with students and training talent since 1982. Star Talent: Zachary Tucker

Maile School graduate Zachary Tucker is 12 years old and home schooled. He attended many programs and workshops here at The Maile Image, Modeling & Acting School. He first started with our 1 day workshop, then enrolled into the kids on camera acting, on to our teen acting, John Peros audition workshop and Improvisation with Jim Braswell. Since this is his passion he also attended our two advanced level programs that include the monologue and scene study program and the All Star Performing Troop.

Zachary landed a variety of film roles that include Robo Dog 2, Sitter, Rifa, A Walk and I Live. His commercial, TV, print and video work includes an industrial video for The Maile School, Winter Science Spectacular at the Orlando Science Center, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the Orange County History Center and Ted the Trainman to name a few.

Zach’s mom Stacy Tucker says, “The Maile School is Zachary’s favorite place to go on Saturday. He enjoys the activities that are taught in class. The teachers are always bringing out the best in him. He has grown, as an actor, so much since he has started attending! His confidence is being built and he knows that when he auditions, he is giving it his all and doing what he has been taught! Maile has been awesome for Zachary.”

When Zachary has down time his hobbies are video games, legos, in which he loves to build the Titanic out of without any guide to help him, reading, going to Disney, riding his bike, watching movies and playing with his best little furry bud Leo!

We are so happy for Zachary and his industry success so far. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this talented!

Dedra Curtis: 2016 Ms. Citrus Perfect Woman

dedra-the-maile-schoolFor over 30 years, Maile School modeling & acting grad Dedra Curtis has judged, competed, and held various State and National pageant titles calling her passion for pageantry, modeling and acting her “alter-ego”.

As Mrs. Florida Spirit 2011, she won the national title, Mrs. American Spirit 2011-2012 and made appearances throughout the United States.  Most recently, Dedra was 2015 Ms. Georgia United States Woman, winning 3rd runner up at Ms. United States and currently holds National Titles: 2016 Ms. Citrus and 2016 Ms. Citrus Perfect Woman.

Dedra is a pre-law graduate from the University of Central Florida, Founder / CEO of Legal1 Self-Help Legal Center which was accepted on the first season of ABC’s hit show Shark Tank. She is National Executive Director of American Spirit Pageants, Founder of Queen Bee Elite Group, a pageantry training resource and sisterhood with a mission of mentoring.

In addition, Dedra is heavily active in the community. Her many charities are Good-Will Ambassador for The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Lighthouse Central Florida, Special Olympics, Westgate Foundation, Make A Wish Foundation, The American Diabetes Association and Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, to name a few. Due to her involvement, she has raised over 2 million dollars benefitingamerican-spirit-the-maile-school charities throughout the nation.

Dedra was recognized by Orlando Woman Newspaper as 2011’s Woman To Watch, selected by Femme Decor to be one of five local “celebrities” to participate in their local “Dancing with the Stars.” The event raised several thousands of dollars for the UCF and Valencia Nursing Programs. She also was nominated in 2013 in the Orlando Business Journal’s to 40 under 40 professionals and received the Central Florida Citrus Council’s Visionary Award Nomination.
